President Publishes Unprecedented Autobiography
The White House
Washington DC

“I wanted to give folks a chance to see what’s inside my heart, and less importantly, my brain. The only impression the American people have of their President at the moment is through the filter of the media criticizers. I want to counter that propaganda with a little bit of common-sense biographizing.”

— President George W. Bush

The landmark publication Destined for Destiny: The Unauthorized Autobiography of George W. Bush is available in hardcover, CD audio, and downloadable formats. This is the first time in modern history that the memoirs of a U.S. President have been released while he’s still in office.

“My advisors were against it, but my horse sense told me it was the right thing to do,” the President said. “I made the decision to speak my words directly to the American people, without all the journalist's interpolations and facts.”

This lasting account of George W. Bush’s life and leadership has been penned by two writers who have earned not only his trust but his deep friendship: Scott Dikkers, editor-in-chief of The Onion and editor and co-author of the #1 bestseller Our Dumb Century, and Peter Hilleren, a former producer for public radio and some of the nation’s finest cable-access television stations. Dikkers and Hilleren call on their finely honed journalism expertise every week writing and recording the official parody of the President’s Weekly Radio Address on WeeklyRadioAddress.com. Their work with the President on such stirring addresses as “June Terror Update” and “The Decider” made them the ideal choice to meet the challenge of committing to the printed page the visionary mark left on history by its shining light, President George W. Bush.

“It was an honor to work with the President on this project,” Dikkers said, “He has been a hero and a role model of mine since Mission Accomplished Day.”

Hilleren added: “The President’s achievement of finishing this book with us is doubly impressive when you consider that he has never actually read one.”
